Happy Birthday n Heaven

Happy birthday Johnny! Remembering the day you were born with wonderful memories.
We love you and miss you. So thankful God gave us 21 years with you. He let us have you for a little while and when your work on earth was done, called you home to be with him. I keep wondering, what all have you experienced now? I cannot even imagine. But I know one thing, you are having a great time singing and praising with the one who gave you life for all eternity. Just wondering, are there Drums in heaven??? We love you and thank the Lord every day for the special times we had with you. Gotta go and get ready to praise the Lord in his church house to day, working for him. Love Mom and Dad

Two weeks till the 21st Annual Bowl for Breath for Cystic Fibrosis

This years event is dedicated to the Memory of a very special young lady, who had to leave to soon. Maggie Mackey, a beautiful 16 year old, who got to fullfill only part of her dreams before a horrible disease took her beautiful life.
We are busy working toward a common goal. To raise money to cure an awful Disease called Cystic Fibrosis.
Johnny, we are keeping our promise, to PUSH for a cure! Are you Praying about this along with working on the event?
Missing you more than ever today. I don't know how to handle the missing you part ? No new pictures of you, you don't get to play with your four nieces, I didn't get to see you grow older. In a few weeks , you would have been 33. Would you have been able to have children?
I love you Johnny,
Mom

Starbucks today

Thank you Trisha, for updating the blog for me. Love you, Mom

Hello Family and Friends, I know it's been a long time since I blogged. I find I don't need to come here as often as I used to. Please Read the story of my visit to Starbucks today below.

Johnny,

I do enjoy to come here quickly and look at your pictures and read the comments of the many people who love you Johnny. They don't come here as often as the grief isn't as horrific as it used to be. But I find I need to come here to help me remember sometimes, things I don't ever want to forget.

As we prepare for The Annual Bowl For Breath, I was really torn about whether I wanted to continue hosting the Bowl for Breath in the Future. Trisha and I talked about it and both felt , we just were not into it this year and our hearts were not in it anymore. We discussed about going and participating in The Walk for the cure through the foundation(can't remember the name of it) another fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. As we still want to raise money for the cure. I told others that this is such a Emotional Roller coaster for me every year. I was ready to quit, UNTIL today.

MY Starbucks visit today: We are working on a project at the Landmark MBC in Mojave and some of the Ladies, Sis Rose, Barbara and Sharon went with me to Bakersfield (the town I was born in, in case I have never told you, lol, sorry inside joke)today to The Guitar Center to pick up an item John had tracked down to install in the churches new sound booth. As we came back, we stopped at the Starbucks in Tehechapi(sp?). Went through the drive through, and then I told the Ladies I was going to go in and buy a few mugs for baskets I was making for the Bowl for Breath. As I asked for help, a young man helped me, and then I ask a few questions about the least expensive coffee on the shelf. I told the young man and the Manager Johnny's story and then told them I was making baskets for the BFB. As I said that, the Manager said, well we will give you the coffee as a donation(I was tired and had not even thought to ask). I said thank you so much, and then proceeded to ask about the coffee mugs on sale. As the Young man helped me with the selection and then proceeded to check me out, he asked me again what this was for. After I told him Johnny's story again, he added up my purchases and I proceeded to pay him. He said, wait a minute, let's see what I can do. He then took his own Starbucks card and /or discount and took $10.00 off my bill. I was so touched I choked up and then started looking in my purse for a Christian tract I usually carry to hand out. Could not find one, so I quickly said Thank you again and then said God bless you. He said bless you too! As I left Starbucks, I felt that tug again to keep PUSHING for the Cure! I started crying as I told the ladies the story of what just happened and how kind some people still are , even in California. Sis. Rose hugged me and then we went on. As we drove back to the church and then later as we had a lesson at church, Bro. Weldon talked about some of your faults in your Christian life and ask each of us what we felt one of our faults were. He said, do we get up in the morning, talk to God and ask for the opportunity to tell someone about him today? Are we just going through the motions of being a busy, busy Christian that we don't stop and share Jesus with those we come in contact with? I then shared what had happened and how I failed to share Jesus, other than saying God bless you because I was to busy driving to get back with the supplies we had bought. Well, guess who is making a trip back to the Starbucks in Tehechapi? I am going back to witness to that young man and give him a tract. If he is not there, I will just share with the other workers. I also made sure I put some Christian tracts back in my purse.

The point? Are we to busy to share what the Lord has done for us with others, if we do nothing else. I'm praying and going to try and work harder at sharing Jesus with this lost and dying world we live in. You know the words I gave for an answer was being more disciplined. I meant more disciplined in Praying, Studying the bible and sharing Jesus everywhere I go. Do you know my Jesus? One big opportunity I get yearly is to share Jesus some at this big event called Bowl for Breath. I can continue to share what a great God we have and the one who has carried us through one of the hardest things of our lives when loosing Johnny.

Still PUSHING 4 the cure!

Thinking of you today, another year without you almost gone.

I was just reading Trisha's Facebook and like her I have been thinking of you Johnny all day today. As the day draws close again to the anniversary of your home going, I get a little blue, missing you and longing for the day when we will see you again. I'm trying to stay busy, while we are on the project here in Star City, Arkansas. You would have loved working at these different churches and meeting all these wonderful people.
I'm trying to remember only the good times, but the bad times won't seem to go away. Maybe it's because so many have died recently of this horrible disease and the CF familys stories have been on-line a lot. And then we are praying for Benny, who reminds me so much of you. The two "Cysters" have been singing on Americas Got Talent and you would have loved that show. You didn't let CF keep you from singing, just like them. Anyway, I will be glad when the 21st has come and gone. Why is it always hardest leading up to that date? I try to stay cheerful, but the clouds start coming over. Miss you Johnny and I pray the Lord will come back soon. Miss your smiling face, I see it in Ally and Megan, Malia and Jena. Each one of the girls carries some of your traits.
Ally, your love for drawing, but I think she may just be a little better than you and her love for dogs. She treats Dusty like you treated Buddy. She also likes to dress up like Santa every year at Christmas.
Megan, your sweet and gentle spirit and willingness to help others and her love for babies.
Malia, her love for animals and love for Candy!
Jena, your sweet smile and loving to clown around and always dressing up. I wish you could have known them all. Just the way you loved Ally proved they would have been even more spoiled. Trisha and Jim have always been real good to tell them about their Uncle Johnny. Well, I'm feeling a little better and have to get off here. See you soon Johnny, love Mom and Dad.

Merry Christmas in Heaven Johnny!

Here you are celebrating another Birthday for Jesus. I can only imagine what you are experiencing. The Hallelujah Chorus's are probably very loud. Are you playing your drums for them? Missing you son and hoping we will all be together very soon. Love you Mom and Dad.

Happy 32nd Birthday in Heaven Johnny!

You know, every year since loosing you Johnny, I go down the Birthday card isle and look at cards to put on your grave. Most cards aren't appropriate because you are no longer here, but it gives us comfort to read and write our thoughts down. Most years I buy a card, but don't even leave it at the grave. This year is no exception.
I hope everyone reads this and realizes , time is short. Love your children, hold them close. Don't take them for granted and treat them how you want to be treated. But most of all, be the Christian example before them and teach them how to love God. So one day they will be saved and live eternally. Do you want your children, your grandchildren to know God? Here is the card I bought this year.

Dear Son,

If only, I had known then how fast the time would go, how days would turn to months, then years- how quickly you would grow...If I knew then what I know now, I'd leave some to-do's undone. I'd worry less, let go of stress, and focus on fun. I'd let the dinner dishes sit, turn off the nightly news, I wouldn't sweat the little things like muddy floors or shoes... But even though I'd change some things, I know this much is true. No one's ever loved their son as much as we love you. Have a wonderful Birthday in Heaven. WE WILL seen you soon!

Love Mom and Dad

Trisha, Jim, Ally, Megan, Malia and Jena send their love too!

John L. Thiem Jr - Nov 12, 1977- July 21,1999

Here it is July 20th 2009, and I'm thinking of you Johnny. 10 years ago our lives changed forever. Of course, not a day goes by without thoughts of you. We try and just dwell on the good memories, but unfortunately those bad days come back to memory because of the horrible disease you lived with every day of your life. Cystic Fibrosis, a disease we continue to fight for a cure of. We do celebrate the fact that you are in Heaven, a place of no more pain, no sorrow and picture you playing the drums and singing in that heavenly choir. We found a few pictures, not of real good quality, and the scanner isn't working, but wanted to add a few new ones. Thanks Oscar for finding this one. Johnny loved to play his drums as often as possible, so playing at camp was a blast for him. I hope you will share some memories of Johnny with us. It is our way of dealing with our grief . We love you Johnny, Mom and Dad.

The picture below is of Johnny and one of his greatest mentors,
his Band Director, Paul Locke. This is at band camp in I believe 1993.
The picture above is at one of our band functions, either a band pool party
or band practice night.

This collage of pictures was put together by a very talented friend and co-band member, Eric Beckett after Johnny died.

Wow 10 years!!!

In just a few days on July 21st will be 10 years since Johnny was promoted to Heaven. Its hard to believe its been that long. I still remember every detail like it was yesterday. I remember when I got to the hospital knowing that things were not good but never thinking that he would die. He always went to the hospital but always came home so there was no way this could happen to him and us. There was family waiting in the entrance lobby to take Ally for me and I was escorted up to the 3rd floor by Clark and Uncle Scott. When I got there the hospital chaplain was there with my mom and dad along with my grandparents and lots of other family. The chaplain and my parents explained to me that there was nothing left they could do for him. They had done all they could and it was time to let him go home. I was devasted! I asked to see him immediately by myself so that I could talk to him and say goodbye on my own. I will never forget that moment. Its something that no one should ever have to go through. Then family started to trickle in the room and we took turns for a bit. Aunt Liz took me out on the balcony and said Trisha look at the sky. Its a beautiful day and remember what the day you lose your brother looks like. It was a beautiful day. Warm and not a cloud in the sky. Then we went back in his room with all of our family and close friends at our side and sang Gospel Way songs to him as he had asked. It was such a beautiful yet heartbreaking moment and right before my mom and dad were going to have to take have him taken off life support God took him instead. Thank You God for taking that burden from my parents. That day was the worst day of our lives and hurts tremendously to this day, but was also the day my brother met Jesus face to face. I cant wait to see him again in Heaven some day soon. I love you and miss you everyday my sweet brother! Love always and forever in my heart, your sister

Favorite Christmas Memories with My Brother!

There are so so many special memories of Christmas with Johnny. Like picking out our Christmas tree every year. We could not wait to go to the Christmas tree farm to get our tree. We both loved to decorate the tree. We would put on some Christmas music and just laugh and have a great time decorating the tree. (maybe even have a little fight over the ornaments too:-) One year when we were older and could drive ourselves, Mom and Dad must have been gone or something, they gave us money to go get a Christmas tree. So Jim, Johnny and I went to the Christmas tree farm. HAHAHA we could pick out which ever one we wanted and they werent there to tell us no. LOL. We came home with a HUGE tree. It wouldn't even stand up in the tree stand. We had to put it in the corner so we could lean it up against the wall for support. That was great. Going back in time a little. I remember when every Christmas Eve Johnny would sleep in my room because we were just so excited we had to be together. We would be awake most of the night talking and giggling then wake up super early to see what Santa had brought us. There are so many more great memories that I could share but I'll save those for next year. Christmas was always very special at our house. I wish we had all those years on video so we could watch them now with our girls. I can only tell them about the wonderful Christmases that Johnny and I had when we were kids. Thank you Mom and Dad for all the wonderful memories!

Happy 31st Birthday in Heaven Johnny!

Today would have been Johnny's 31st birthday. Its so weird to think that it has been 10 years now since we celebrated a birthday with him. It seems like just yesterday he was here. Lucky for him he will never grow old. LOL. The rest of us keep getting older and older. I miss you so much my Bro. I would have called you today and probably sang out of tune happy birthday to you just like we did on each others birthdays every year. I miss that. I know you are having a great day today in heaven. We love you sooo much and cant wait to be with you again someday soon.

Love Trisha, Jim, Mom, Dad, Ally, Megan, Malia and Jena

This is our group picture from the Bowl for Breath this last Sat. We had a really great turn out for our first year running it and raised a little over $12,000 for CF. Thank you to everyone who had a part in making this day a great success. Next year will be even better.

Bowl For Breath Nov 8, 2008

Hello everyone, Bowl for Breath 2008 is just around the corner.
Please give to this worthy cause. We celebrate on this day Johnny's Birthday, with our gift to him to continue the Fight for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

I have a special prayer request.
Many of you know Benny from our church. Benny has Cystic Fibrosis and was evaluated for a double lung transpant this week. Please pray for him, as I know he is very frightened by all the unknown. Please also be an encouragement to him.
Remember as we PUSHED4JOHNNY now we need to PUSH4BENNY

Celebrating Johnny's life Nov 12,1977-July 21,1999

You know I was kinda sad that I don't have any new pictures of Johnny to share, and then I remember he is in a land "Where we'll never grow old". Johnny will be young and how old will we be?
He is with his Grandma(Nana) he loved so much, his grandfather's he never knew on earth (Marv Sr and A.D.) He is singing and probably playing his drums in heaven. Are there drums? Can't you just see him? He's rejoicing in a place where he's singing "I'm going to live forever". We here on earth are just sad because we miss him so much. Don't you want to know what will he look like "When we all get to Heaven". Will he be as young as when he left here nine years ago and will we be old!!!!!! Ha!Ha!
We have gotten older and someone is going to be 40 this year. I don't know who(Chris) (Sorry Chris, but had to laugh at your expense so I would stop crying). Just wait the ribbing has only begun Chris. Someone else real special will be 60, I just really love old people(Clark). You know I love you or I wouldn't tease you!
But do you ever wonder about these things? I just know Johnny is happy, sitting

"At the Feet of Jesus". Getting all the answers to the questions he has. Is he fatter? He's healthier, but was so skinny and sick here. Trisha says he's sitting with Grandma, having some cinnamon bread, Pepsi and having a burping contest, like when we went to Lake Isabella to see them.

When we were planning Johnny's funeral, Greg shared this story with us. Johnny and Greg discussed that when they died they wanted this song played at their funeral. Johnny said, Greg I will probably die before you so make sure they play this. This song was played at the gravesite.

GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN (Vince Gill)

I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain.
Chorus:
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son.

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered 'round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels' faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing.
Go rest high on that mountain
Son your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son.

Go rest high on that mountain
Cause, son your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son.
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son...

Can't you hear Johnny shoutin'? He would say to you, don't grieve for me, just "Prepare to meet thy God". Don't you want to go? Are you ready to go? If the Lord came back today would you be prepared? Would he find you faithful?

We love you all, you have always been here for us.
Please "Share A Blessing "with us

Merry Christmas in Heaven

Another year has gone by with Johnny in Heaven and this year a few more family members have joined Johnny. Aunt Lela and Lil Tony are spending time together with Johnny and just catching up. Don't you wonder what they are talking about after adoring and worshipping our Heavenly Father and singing in that heavenly choir. Makes me just want to go home, but the Lord's not finished with me yet and "Until then" I will just carry on. Please pray for our family this year who have lost a family member. Christmas will be different this year.
Time is short and we need to live each day as if it is our last day on earth. Share Jesus with someone this year!
Love you all and miss you so much Johnny!
Love Mom
